Maximum visibility with controlled electricity consumption
Six high-output red LEDs combine narrow and wider optical coverage to create a powerful forward-facing warning signal. Carefully controlled flash timing provides strong conspicuity while keeping average current consumption suitable for glider electrical systems.
FLARM-aware operation. Automatic response to FLARM alarms
The Glider Canopy Flasher reads FLARM alarm information and automatically changes to the pattern selected for Normal operation or Alarm Levels 1, 2 and 3. More urgent traffic situations can therefore trigger progressively stronger, more attention-grabbing patterns without any action by the pilot.
Fully configurable flashing patterns
Choose from 22 predefined patterns and 4 user-defined patterns, including four low-consumption ECO patterns, plus four fully user-programmable patterns. Each pattern can be assigned independently to Normal operation or any FLARM alarm level.
The interval between sequences can also be adjusted, allowing the flash rate, average current and visual effect to be tailored to the pilot’s preferences and intended use.
Create your own flash sequences
The four user-programmable patterns allow the number of pulses, flash duration, spacing and rest period to be configured individually. New settings can be tested immediately before they are saved permanently.
This provides considerably more flexibility than a conventional flasher with only fixed factory patterns.
Wireless setup without physical access
All settings are available through the Glider Canopy Flasher’s built-in Wi-Fi web interface. Patterns, alarm assignments, speed control, wireless FLARM outputs and firmware updates can be managed from a phone, tablet or computer.
There is no need to remove panels, reach the controller, change DIP switches or connect a USB configuration cable.
FLARM data forwarding
The wired FLARM data stream can be forwarded simultaneously to compatible navigation devices and applications using:
- Bluetooth Classic;
- Bluetooth Low Energy;
- Wi-Fi UDP.
The Glider Canopy Flasher therefore acts as both a visual-awareness light and a convenient wireless FLARM data gateway.
Redundant LED channels
The light system uses two independently controlled LED driver channels. If one channel develops a fault, the other can continue operating, preserving partial light output instead of losing the complete flasher.
This adds an important level of functional redundancy to the system.
Speed-aware operation with fail-safe behaviour
Normal flashing can be limited to operation above a configurable aircraft speed, reducing unnecessary flashing and battery use while the glider is stationary or moving slowly on the ground.
FLARM alarms always override the speed threshold. If valid FLARM communications are lost, the Glider Canopy Flasher enters a fail-safe mode and activates the Normal pattern, maintaining visual conspicuity until valid FLARM data is restored.
Simple, Non-Invasive Installation
The flashing unit is installed inside the canopy using high-strength automotive-grade VHB adhesive tape. No canopy drilling, cutting or permanent modification is required.
VHB tape is a strong, flexible structural adhesive that bonds the unit securely to the canopy while accommodating small differences in curvature. The installation surface is simply cleaned, the protective backing is removed, and the flashing unit is pressed firmly into position.
This provides a secure, neat installation without creating holes or damaging the canopy structure.
Everything Required for Installation Included
The package includes:
- Glider Canopy Flasher unit;
- control box;
- FLARM connection cable;
- two-part quick-disconnect cable between the control box and flashing unit;
- aircraft power cable;
- pre-cut VHB mounting tape
The two-part connection cable provides a safe and easy disconnection points during canopy jettison.
Installation under CAA / EASA CS-STAN
The flasher is designed for installation under CAA / EASA CS-STAN Issue 4, CS-SC036B, subject to the installation, electrical protection, functional testing and release-to-service requirements of that standard.
